This is the sixth training of the Exploring History and Seminal Theories of Play Therapy series.

This training provides an introduction to directive play therapy approaches, focusing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) play therapy and Adlerian play therapy. Participants will learn how these models use structured, goal-oriented techniques within play to address children’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The session will cover key principles of CBT and Adlerian theories, demonstrate how to apply specific interventions through play, and highlight ways to support children in building skills like emotional regulation, problem-solving, and social connection.

Nik has been a private practice counselor in Texas since 2017. He works with children aged (4+), adolescents, and adults, specializing in complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and play therapy. Previously Nik worked at an agency in Missouri providing play therapy to children in the foster care system. He offers continuing education to professionals especially within the topics of working with developmental trauma, dissociative disorders, and play therapy.
