Training Description

This play therapy training is offered Live In-Person for contact hours and Virtual via Zoom Platform for non-contact hours.

Do you ever struggle with weaving EMDR phases into your play therapy practice? Join Christy Graham, EMDR Consultant, as she introduces the Fairy Tale Model of EMDR developed by Ricky Greenwald. This imaginative and empowering story follows a kingdom facing a terrible dragon—offering a playful, accessible way to conceptualize trauma and healing.

Together, we’ll explore who steps forward as the hero, how they prepare for the journey, and the vital role of their supportive community. Using this narrative, you’ll learn how to identify where your clients are within the EMDR phases and how to translate that into meaningful play therapy interventions. Come ready to participate—this workshop includes interactive breakout sessions designed to bring the story to life in your play therapy practice.

Learning Objectives

1. Tell the Fairy Tale story of trauma recovery using play therapy techniques

2. Identify three specific toys from the playroom that can be used to share this story with child clients and their families

3. Name three key community partners (e.g., parents, teachers, CPS) who support play therapy clients during recovery from trauma

4. Design two play therapy interventions to teach the Nurturing Parent Protocol

5. Identify two types of client issues that can be addressed in play therapy by using the Nurturing Parent Protocol in Phase 2 of EMDR

LPC-S, Registered Play Therapist™ - Supervisor, Parent Facilitator, and Reunification Counselor

Christy Graham began working in play therapy in 2000 at the Mental Health Mental Retardation Center of Burke County in Texas. Serving at risk families and children, she learned how to address mental health issues with a treatment team approach. She further developed her skills in play therapy and counseling while serving at the Nelson Center, a residential treatment center for CPS children. When she began her private practice in 2003 and then created her own company in 2013, she brought that depth of knowledge to her private practice focused on children and families. Now, her work with children, families and survivors of sex trafficking, has led her into more and more court involved treatment. She has learned to make a difference in complicated, difficult to treat families and wants to share these skills with you.
