Training Description
This play therapy training is offered Live In-Person for contact hours and LIVE Webinar via Zoom for LIVE WEBINAR/non-contact hours.
Have you noticed the continual increase in the number of adolescents and children bringing gender identity topics into play therapy? We have too and created this training just for you!
This training is a beginner’s introduction to provide information about child, adolescent and family experiences of gender identity that present in play therapy. This training explores the value of clarifying terms related to sex, gender, and identity with children, adolescents, and their caregivers. A description of historical, cultural and DSM conceptualizations of gender identity will be reviewed. The training includes theories of causation for Gender Dysphoria and value-based frameworks for understanding variance in gender identity. Participants will apply assessment considerations for use in play therapy and with adolescents, along with legal and ethical considerations to inform treatment for Gender Dysphoria and related conditions. The influence of the caregivers’ personal values and framework for understanding gender identity on their relationship with their gender-questioning child will be explored. Application of play therapy interventions for use in play therapy and with adolescents will also be demonstrated.
Please note: This training is designed to provide information about a range of perspectives concerning the exploration of gender identity questions in play therapy.
