This is the third training of the Exploring History and Seminal Theories of Play Therapy series.

This one-hour training provides a concise introduction to Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). Participants will learn the core principles, goals, and structure of CCPT, with an emphasis on the therapist’s role, the importance of the therapeutic relationship, and the belief in the child’s innate capacity for growth. The training will also include a brief overview of session flow, recommended materials, and key skills used in this non-directive approach to support emotional healing through play.

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the core principles and goals of Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT).
  2. Identify the therapist’s role, key skills, and materials recommended for use in CCPT sessions.
  3. Describe the structure and flow of a CCPT session and its emphasis on the child’s innate capacity for growth.

Nik has been a private practice counselor in Texas since 2017. He works with children aged (4+), adolescents, and adults, specializing in complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and play therapy. Previously Nik worked at an agency in Missouri providing play therapy to children in the foster care system. He offers continuing education to professionals especially within the topics of working with developmental trauma, dissociative disorders, and play therapy.
