This is the fifth training of the Exploring History and Seminal Theories of Play Therapy series.

This training explores Ecosystemic Play Therapy. Participants will learn how to view the child within the context of their broader environment, including family, school, culture, and community, and how these systems impact the child’s emotional and behavioral functioning. The training will cover strategies for engaging caregivers, collaborating with other systems, and using play-based interventions that reflect the child’s lived context. Emphasis will be placed on the therapist’s role in facilitating change across multiple levels of the child’s world.

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the core principles of Ecosystemic Play Therapy and its emphasis on the child within broader relational and environmental contexts.
  2. Identify strategies for engaging caregivers and collaborating with schools, communities, and other systems that impact the child.
  3. Apply play-based interventions that reflect the child’s lived context and support change across multiple levels of the child’s ecosystem.

Nik has been a private practice counselor in Texas since 2017. He works with children aged (4+), adolescents, and adults, specializing in complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and play therapy. Previously Nik worked at an agency in Missouri providing play therapy to children in the foster care system. He offers continuing education to professionals especially within the topics of working with developmental trauma, dissociative disorders, and play therapy.
