Training Description

This play therapy training is offered Live In-Person for contact hours and LIVE Webinar via Zoom for LIVE WEBINAR/non-contact hours.

Participants will explore three widely used, research-supported discipline models—Conscious Discipline, Positive Discipline, and Love & Logic—to enhance their ability to guide parents in consultations. Participants will examine the core principles, strengths, and challenges of each approach and learn how to integrate these models into their work with children and families. Through case studies, discussion, and interactive role-play, therapists will develop strategies for supporting parents in choosing and applying discipline techniques that align with their family’s values and their child’s emotional needs. This training equips play therapists with practical tools to help parents foster self-regulation, connection, and responsibility while maintaining a nurturing parent-child relationship.

Learning Objectives

  1. Differentiate the core principles, techniques, and underlying research of 3 discipline models and alignment with play therapy principles
  2. Identify 2 benefits and 2 limitations of each model for play therapy parent consultations based on the child’s developmental needs, temperament, and family dynamics
  3. Apply 3 key discipline concepts from each model in parent consultations, using case studies and role-playing to enhance parental guidance in a play therapy setting.
